It is the most wonderful time of the year again, Spring Cleaning! Who doesn’t love a clean house full of fresh air? For some, Spring Cleaning releases stress and is a day they look forward to all year. Unfortunately, for others it is the most dreaded and stressful time. The idea of long hours of endless cleaning while getting hot and sweaty from scrubbing the floors just does not sound like a great time. Well, have no fear! Below are simple and effective ways to make sure that this year will be the cleanest and best year yet without some of the dread!

Tote Bucket

Create a bucket full of items that you might need throughout your cleaning adventure. Instead of running back and forth to the cabinet for glass cleaner, paper towels or bleach – you will have it all in one convenient place. Keeping it in a bucket makes holding or carrying it even less of a hassle.

Stretch it Out

Cleaning can be a very stressful and tedious task. Don’t overwork yourself and try to do it all in one day. Take breaks and schedule ahead of time which tasks to tackle each day. For example:
Monday: Kitchen Duty

Tuesday: Bathroom Blitz

Wednesday: Operation Living Room

Thursday: Battle of the Bedroom

Friday: Monster Garage

Saturday: Miscellaneous Tasks – or relax and enjoy a cup of coffee in your clean house! (just don’t forget to wash the cup when you’re done!)

Breath of Fresh Air

Just because you are stuck inside cleaning does not mean you cannot enjoy the great outdoors! Open up the windows or doors to let in fresh air.

Work Smarter Not Harder

Let the machines in your house do their job while you do yours. Before vacuuming the carpet, make sure your dishes are in the dishwasher and your clothes are in the washer. Now you are getting three things done at once!

Less is More

Just because it was your favorite outfit or accessory five years ago, does not mean you need to hang on to it. You know that chair that sits in the corner of the room collecting clean laundry? Get rid of it! The vanity that a friend gave to you that’s sitting in the living room even though it doesn’t match your furniture – that can go too! I am sure when that friend comes over they will understand why it is gone. Free up some space by getting rid of things you no longer need. Once you have selected items that are no longer needed, consider donating them!

Place of Hope has a great social enterprise business called “Treasures for Hope.” It accepts donations of high quality.

Take some of these easy tips and make this year the best one yet. Happy Spring Cleaning!
